Common Questions

Can I use any tree?

Nearly all trees are suitable for a treehouse, although we wouldn't recommend holly for obvious reasons.

Do I need a tree for a treehouse?

No. It may sound odd but if you don't have a suitable tree then we can build a treehouse on a raised platform, supported by posts which can be placed amongst trees.

Will it harm the tree?

Trees can take a lot of stress without harming the tree. We design our treehouses to minimise the amount of damage to the tree and its surrounding environment.

Do I need planning permission?

Generally speaking a treehouse is classed as a temporary structure and will not need planning permission. However if it is to become an office or a guest room then it probably will need planning permission. It is a bit of a grey area and customers are advised to contact their local authority to seek advice.

How much will it cost?

Our treehouses start at around £3,000 for a simple structure and can go as high as £100,000 for a large project.

Do you use timber from sustainable sources?

All our timber is sourced from sustainable sources. We use a lot of sweet chestnut which is coppiced locally here in Sussex. Chestnut is ideal for outdoor structures as it is a naturally durable hardwood that contains tannins, which help protect the timber from decay and insect attack. This means that it does not need to be treated with chemicals. We also use reclaimed timber as well as reclaimed doors and windows.
